Fish and Chips Recipe

Hello Everyone! Today’s recipe is my version of a popular English dish, Fish and Chips. The fish I use is cod fish and the chips are french fries. This is a great tasting dish that takes less than 30 minutes to prepare and cook. The dipping sauce recipe adds a lot of flavor to the fish and chips. This recipe is great for those nights that you don’t have much time to prepare a big dinner. I hope you enjoy! Watch the video recipe or scroll down to read the written recipe. Thank you!

Ingredients:

  • A bottle of beer, light
  • 1 egg
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. corn starch
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 3 cod fish fillets

Dipping Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. of lime zest
  • handful of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • juice of 1 lime
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp. cumin

Add flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, corn starch, and raw egg into a big bowl and whisk all ingredients together. Once mixed, slowly add small amounts of beer and mix the ingredients together before adding more beer. You will end up using about half a bottle of beer once the mix is fully mixed together and has the same texture as pancake mix.

You can take a sip of beer too if you’d like 🙂

Next, cut the cod fish diagonally to be left with about 10 pieces per fillet.

Fill a pot half way with oil and bring to a boil over high heat. Oil is ready once you add a piece of batter to the oil and it sizzles. Once oil is ready, cover the cod fish fillets in the batter mixture and then fry them in the pot for about 5 minutes.

The fish is ready once they are a golden color. Remove the fish from the pot and place on a dish covered with a piece of paper towel to absorb the oil. You are now done with your fish!

To make the dipping sauce, mix the sour cream, lime zest, cilantro, lime juice, black pepper, salt, and cumin all together and serve. Dip the fries or fish to enjoy.

To complete this fish and chips dish, I also add french fries on the side. Super quick and easy and also tastes delicious. Don’t forget to add a little Oh Yeah Baby on the side to take this dish up a notch.

Salute and cin cin!
